Event Brief

In this webinar, we will discuss key radar topics that are often taught or discussed in isolation, such as radar signal processing, radar cross section (RCS) and target detection. We will connect the dots on how they influence one another, and how they ultimately affect radar detection performance. Numerical results and simulation examples will be used throughout to illustrate concepts.

Topics covered include:

  • Radar detection principles and operation, including Constant False Alarm Rate (CFAR) detectors and performance, Probability of Detection (Pd) and Probability of False Alarm (Pfa) calculations, and the generation of Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curves.
  • Radar detector types, such as coherent detectors, video detectors and m-of-n.
  • Radar signal processing for modern airborne pulse-Doppler radar, including both coherent and non-coherent integration and their effects on SNR and detection performance.
  • An overview of target radar cross section (RCS) theory, with specific focus on Swerling RCS models.
