Event Brief

In this two-part webinar (total 8 hours), we will present fundamental concepts of modeling and simulation of radar systems. The general principles apply to all radar applications, although special attention is dedicated to military applications.

Our discussions and examples will be focused on high-fidelity, physics-based (“waveform-level”) modelling in contract to lower fidelity, effects-based models. Models will encompass the radar system itself and main subsystems, associated signal and data processing, the external signal environment and atmospheric propagation effects. Simulation examples with numerical results in the Matlab® and Simulink® environments will be presented throughout to illustrate concepts.

Learning Objectives

At the end of the 8-hour webinar, students will be able to:

  • Understand the basic concepts and methodologies for modelling and simulation of radar systems.
  • Identify mathematical models and software implementation for radar waveforms and associated signal processing functions.
  • Understand atmospheric and propagation effects and how to model them.
  • Describe simple models for electronic attack, electronic protection, and electronic support.
