Event Brief

This course is intended for the engineer, scientist or technical manager from industry, educational institutions, and government agencies with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or mathematics. Some computer programming experience is helpful but not required. In this course, you will gain an understanding of techniques for modeling & simulation (M&S) of basic radar systems, subsystems and related phenomenology, with applications to radar systems design, analysis, test and evaluation, and performance assessment.

The course will start with a review of basic mathematical and probabilistic concepts necessary to understanding radar theory. This will be followed by a brief introduction to modeling and simulation concepts. The course offers a unique blend of theory and hands-on practical modeling exercises in the Matlab® and Simulink® programming environments. A half-day refresher tutorial is provided at the beginning of the course for both software packages.

Benefits of Attending

At the end of this course, attendees will be able to:

  • Model the radar range equation and understand performance trades using modeling tools.
  • Develop simple models to determine target probability of detection and probability of false alarm.
  • Understand waveform-level modeling of radar systems to analyze radar performance.
  • Simulate the major components of a modern radar system, including signal processing techniques.
  • Understand the different levels of modeling and simulation (engineering, engagement, mission, etc.) for defence applications.
